“Pity they didn’t show it on the pitch”- Many Blues fans unimpressed by caretaker’s comments

|

Not exactly the greatest of starts to a head coach’s career was it?

But at least he’s willing to accept he made a mistake (alright it’s not that big of a positive, but let’s face it, we’ve not got a lot of positivity to go around at the moment).

Blues fell to Stoke City yesterday, with the team still looking for our first win since the season restarted, and after the game caretaker head coach Steve Spooner opened up about the atmosphere in the dressing room after the game, whilst also admitting that the change in formation didn’t go as well as he’d hoped.

Do the players need to take some blame for the situation we're in?

Yes

No

However, Blues fans weren’t willing to take these comments lying down. Having already torn into the players for their effort, or lack thereof during the game, they turned their anger up a notch and gave both Spooner and the players both barrels.

What about you? What do you make of Spooner’s comments after the game?

As Tom Ross often said, Don’t tell me show me.

He may well have changed the formation but
what he did not change is one of the poor tactics that
Pep. introduced after the break in games.
i.e. ‘The social distancing tactic’ where no Blues
player approaches an opponent who is less than 2 metres away.

We now have the team captain mouthing off after the game. What happens on the pitch is what counts – lead by example, inspire, motivate – if you can’t do that stand down! If the fans were at the games we would not be in this situation – the players are insulated from the criticism they deserve. It’s a “While the cat’s away situation” – they are doing what they like with the knowledge that with a small squad selection is guaranteed and no fans there to criticize. Go against Charlton with a “We are going to win” attitude” – if you can’t do that give your pay to charity!

I don’t blame Spooner. He might have got the formation wrong but these are supposed to be high quality players playing in one of the worlds best leagues. Playing in different positions even doesn’t excuse such a pathetic display and lack of desire. And I don’t believe it is all down to a lack of fans. So what is the problem. Attitude?? Maybe but more likely lack of leadership as this apathy has spread throughout the team and started when Clotet decided to announce he was leaving just before the restart. What message does that give? And why did he decide to leave? Family maybe but who cares? The owners have done nothing to show us fans they know how to run a big club. They don’t. There handling of managers since they arrived has been disastrous with this situation being the latest of a number of stupid decisions. The players however need to look at themselves and start taking more responsibility for what is going on during a game. Get stuck in and show some passion and pride, fight from start to finish and if the can’t do that drop them. From what I have seen so far the two centre backs Dean and Robert’s may as well have stayed at home Dean should be stripped as Captain and give it to Camp who is one of the few players who comes out of this with any pride. The rest? Well I’m sure they all like looking at themselves but perhaps they ought to look a bit deeper next time they look in a mirror.
