Opinion: Why govt news could have more impact on 2020/21 for the Blues than the current season

|

I suppose the question really is, should we really be caring about the way the season finishes?

That is of course if it finishes at all?

After all, we’re not likely to be fighting for anything. Nine points off the playoffs, and eight points away from relegation, we’re pretty much in the ideal spot to be talking about this, because unlike those in the Premier League, we don’t have much of a vested interest in things when it comes to this season, so we can’t be accused of wanting something to happen just because it will benefit or hurt us in a certain way if the season does or does not finish.

The government announced yesterday that sports will be allowed to resume in this country on a ‘behind closed doors’ basis from as early as June 1st, meaning that the decision on whether to play now lies in the hands of the sports themselves, having essentially been told by the government that it is safe to do so.

Will we play all of our 46 games in the 2019/20 season?

Yes

No

Whilst we may not have a horse in the race when it comes to this campaign, I do still maintain that getting the season finished is going to be important for the Blues seeing as we need to start turning our attention to next season, something I’ve talked about before.

If we don’t get this season finished, it might have a major impact on how we start next season, as once we were mathematically safe we could start putting plans in place for the 2020/21 campaign, given we could be losing a few key members of the squad.

What about you? Do you think that the season needs to finish so that we can get some things in plan for next season? Or do you think that we’d benefit from the rest that this stoppage has brought upon the players?
