Opinion: Blues would be wasting their time and money chasing after former Man City man

|

Something we need to steer well away from.

With the domestic transfer window getting ever closer to being finished, there’s still some time for clubs to make moves, and it looks as if Birmingham City are looking to do just that, but with a name that comes very much out of left field.

According to a report from TEAMtalk, Blues are just one of a number of Championship clubs that are looking to bring in 25-year-old Cameroonian midfielder Wato Kuate. The former Manchester City academy graduate is currently a free agent having left Finnish side RoPS, and is being trailed by the likes of Sheffield Wednesday, Nottingham Forest and Queens Park Rangers, with the latter currently reportedly in the lead.

Blues will sign ____ more players this window?

No

1-2

3+

Which I think gives us a major advantage because I just think this would be a waste of a signing. If you take a look at Brian Dick’s recent article about team selection and personnel, I don’t see where he would fit in to the team, either within the starting eleven or even on the substitutes bench, which means you’d be paying (in wages at least) for a very expensive training ground extra.

On top of that, with Aitor Karanka stating recently that his philosophy is to get players with plenty of Championship and promotion experience, you can’t even make the argument that he would come in and be a good ‘presence in the changing room’.

So long story short, let QPR or one of the other clubs take him, because I just don’t see what he would add to our team.

What about you? Do you think that we should sign Kuate?

Karanka is seemingly obsessed with midfielders! Another 1-1 or 0-0 coming up or worse a 0-1 defeat. It’s a striker we need! One win in 4 games is nothing to celebrate!!

I can’t believe we are thinking of selling Maikel Kieftenbeld. I can understand why they would want to offload David Davis, he has been a fantastic player for Blues with some iconic moments but there is now a lot of competition in the team and he will struggle to get back in, but Maikel is a different proposition. He has the grit and never die attitude we need. He is good with the ball, does not shirk a tackle, he has scored some spectacular goals, he is still fairly young and fit and has given numerous man of the match performances. We appear to have brought in Clayton to replace him, but I have not been overly impressed so far. Clayton maybe a bit steadier and loud but Kieftenbeld covers every blade of grass, always makes himself available and never gives less than 100%. Also agree with previous comments about needing a striker. Need to invest around £10M for a decent player, if one would come. I’m afraid I do not have much faith in Scott Hogen and the Juke is going to burn himself out if someone does not join to take the pressure off and reduce his markers from 3 at a time to 2.
