“Fortunes”: Journalist details one thing that could prove a stumbling block for Blues this summer

|

Well, that’s one way to more or less end the story.

Back to square one people, this one probably isn’t going to happen. One of the areas that the Blues are going to need to focus on a lot this summer, along with goalkeeper, is the centre of defence, with only three players who have had a reasonable amount of first-team experience, Harlee Dean, Marc Roberts and Wes Harding.

But one tweet from journalist Alan Nixon kind of demonstrates just how hard that might be if we want to get some quality into the equation.

Responding to a fan on social media enquiring about the possibility of Ben Gibson coming to St Andrew’s (probably by putting two and two together from the time Gibson spent at Middlesbrough under Aitor Karanka), Nixon pointed out that one thing could stop the deal going through, and that’s the cost.

With Blues not known for handing out big sums when it comes to transfers, but with Karanka arguably needing money, it’ll be interesting to see which side coms out on top in that battle of philosophies.

What about you? What do you make of this news surrounding Gibson, and do you think it will have further implications for us?
