Blues could be set for a departure in the dugout – Report

|

Looks like Garry Monk is coming back to St Andrew’s after all, although only so he can pick up some of his old stuff.

Having been appointed as the Sheffield Wednesday boss on Friday, Monk is in the process of putting together his backroom staff.

Much in the same way that Tony Mowbray is always accompanied by Mark Venus, and for those of you of a certain age, how Brian Clough and Peter Taylor liked to work together, it’s not uncommon for a manager to work with the same backroom staff throughout his career. In that line of thought, there were some Birmingham fans that were hoping that Monk would reunite with Pep Clotet as he did in his Swansea City days.

And according to reports up in Sheffield it looks as if there could be a potential poach about to take place, although much to the disappointment of those fans that want Clotet gone, it’s only one of his backroom staff that could be on the move, for now anyway as James Beattie looks to be the first man that could be out the door at St Andrew’s.

Personally, I’m not really all that fussed if James Beattie leaves the club. I think that every manager should be able to pick his own backroom staff to work with and pick the people he feels most comfortable with. I’ve said previously about Pep Clotet wanting to implement a certain style of play, and if Beattie leaves then it just gives him the chance to bring someone in who better understands his style and can get it across to the players a lot easier. As a result, we could end up seeing a lot better football in B9 in the not too distant future.

What do you think? Would you be OK with Beattie leaving? Or do you think that trying to keep the team together would be more beneficial to breaking them up?
