Birmingham City are set to complete their first signing of the summer transfer window after Union Berlin full-back Kristian Pedersen verbally agreed to join the club after he visited the stadium on Monday, Vital Birmingham can reveal.

The 23-year-old, who posted a picture on his Instagram page of him at an airport, was rumoured to have been spotted at the club earlier this week after photos were leaked online. Although they were blurry, many fans assumed it was the left-back and Vital Birmingham have learned that it was indeed the left-sided player.

Despite nothing being officially signed off just yet, we believe that a deal is close to completion and that manager Garry Monk will have his first confirmed signing as Blues manager sooner rather than later.

Blues fans, are you happy that the club are making early moves in the transfer window? Let us know in the comment section down below!

  • Very happy I’m convinced Gary Monk will bring in quality not quantity evry confidence in our manager

  • Yes very happy it means Grounds is one step further away from starting..
Now go get Bartley, Hernandez and 2 enforcers in the middle of the park and were looking good.
Dont mind Smithies for Stocko save money on wages, sell Che to Stoke for £10mill+ hopefully get £9mill+ from the Butland sale and re-invest and we could be looking at a strong side this season!!

    • You know stuff all about football ground was our most consitant defender last season and by did we miss him when he was out last season. Or didn’t you noticed not one player who has played at full and replaced him kept him out he can also play as a centre half. I bet your one of those that also complained about maghoma go support the vila .pratt

      • Calm down Brian Vaughan, you need to face reality its quite simple, Grounds has been part of the problem for seasons, have you forgotten that we have been fighting relegation for 4 years while he has been left back. HE IS PART OF THE PROBLEM ITS CALLED A LOSING MENTALITY BUT HEY I GUESS GARRY MONK IS ALSO WRONG FOR IDENTIFYING THE FACT WHEN HE DID RETURN FROM INJURY HE PLAYED COLIN OUT OF POSITION BUT I GUESS YOUR RIGHT AND NOT MONK..
Grounds is truly terrible and has been since he has been a the club, just like blues terrible, times are changing!
If Grounds was as you said was our most consistent defender last season then why is Garry Monk replacing him and why did he play Colin out of position?? Was Monk wrong to do this in your expert view? I think ill take the UEFA A licensed coach views instead of yours.. LAUGHABLE BRIAN VAUGHAN LAUGHABLE. ‘Pratt’

      • Read what Ryan had said. He speaks sense.

IMO if our last Rowett squad only Adams, Maghoma and Fabbrini would be regulars in an automatic promotion-winning team. The others aren’t at that level.

  • Don’t know too much on the player, reports from Germany state him as a good prospect. Happier to see us spending cash again though after the concers certain reporters were coming out with regarding FFP. For us to buy a player from the off without having to sell/release anyone of any worth before must imply we do have money in the bank still available. Grounds has done well over the years, but could see when Rhoys was in the side for them few games its certainly an area to improve and having Colin at left back was never going to be the answer.

  • Left back has needed addressing for nearly six years so at last it looks like being the priority signing for us. Grounds has done good job for us in being reliable, consistent and never moaning, even chipping in with a few vital match winning goals, so I actually hope he stays as we need two in every position and he can fill in at centre half as well.

  • Hopefully he will actually Sign on the dotted line. But very very happy if it comes off. In MONK we trust. KRO

  • I don’t have any doubt in Monks judgement.
He will assemble a very strong squad for the coming season, of that I’m certain.
I must be honest though, I’m a bit worried he’s only ‘verbally’ agreed to join us.
I just hope he doesn’t have a look at Leeds, and decided to join them.
I’ll be happy when he’s actually put pen to paper.
He definitely sounds like the type of left back we need.

  • Al least I can pronounce his name!. Best of luck to Jonathan Grounds if he moves on. For me a quality mid field player is our priority.

  • Monk is our manager. We need to back him 100% and if this is the player he wants and he wants to do his transfer business early. That’s fine by me.

      Monk knows what he’s doing
He should be backed by 100% of our fan’s.
Unfortunately, the way some are already questioning his decisions, it doesn’t appear that they are.
      But I am !!!

  • Would be a good signing Pedersen we needed a left back for a long time what we need now is another striker and goalkeeper trust in Monk he knows what he’s doing.

  • If Stockdale goes we will need a keeper other than that if pedierson signs 2 more players will be enough a creative midfielder and a forward

  • Positive news when he signs however players and agents are greedy,if another club (Leeds ) come after him with a better offer money always talks in football. KRO

  • monk as provided is worth, do your very best, and get us up in the top support is with you and our team.

  • Left back is a position that 4 managers previously have failed to strengthen in fact Redknapp weakened us in this position. And Pedersen looks a powerful left back and apparently great in defence. If he does sign a defence as just got 80% stronger.

  • Gary will need to eventually clear most of the first team out. Because of there losing mentality or not good enough. The board must back and trust him. He will put it right. Looking forward to the new season. Home and away. Keep right on.

  • Garry Monk is clearing out the high earners and such …. Groundsey is one of those. J Grounds has been a good servant to the club, but …… it is time for him to go like people have said we need quality not quantity look at how Brentford have done used the youth system plus got in frees and low earners they are always around the play offs , tbh we have the backbone of a good team already so yep im looking forward to the new season GM knows what he needs to put his blueprint on the Blues …….. so KRO………
