A new book, Haircuts and League Cups has revealed that there were a number of deals for players in the pipelines that simply didn’t come off for the club.

McLeish’s team were a little thin on the ground when they embarked on a famous Carling Cup winning campaign and who knows where the club would be if some of these transfers may have came off.

It is no secret Yeung promising a £50m point transfer kitty when he walked into Birmingham, lifting the cloud of pessimism and contempt left behind by David Sullivan.

Behind the scenes Yeung was plotting transfers for Bobby Zamora, Mauro Boselli and Moussa Dembele and others which are not mentioned in the extract.

The Chairman’s desire to make Blues a formidable force saw him class with first team boss Alex McLeish. According to the book, it go to the point where Yeung threatened to sack the Scot if he did not sign the players Yeung wanted.

Birmingham did lay out £20 million in Yeung’s first year in charge, Ben Foster, Nikola Zigic and Jean Beausejour all joining that year.

Be sure to check out the book to find out more about the reign of Carson Yeung at Birmingham City.
