There is absolutely no secret about the fact that Birmingham City are in desperate need of a new striker next season and following a number of reports are players who are supposedly interesting Gary Rowett, I thought it would be a good idea to take a look at some former strikers of ours who should consider a move back to the club.

Blues have had some gems in the past when it comes to strikers who have passed threw their ranks, whether that be on loan, on a permanent deal or just players that have come through the youth system, and there are a few that I would personally like to see return.

I have highlighted three ex-forwards who I think could do the job once again in a royal blue shirt, and no, before anybody even goes there, one of them isn’t Nicklas Bendtner, although I wouldn’t mind seeing him back at St.Andrews every other Saturday afternoon!

So, here we go, here are the three strikers that I think could really make an impact if they returned to Birmingham City during the 2016 summer transfer window.

1. SONE ALUKO.

The former Blues youth player was never really given the opportunity to shine during his first spell with the club where he failed to make a single appearance but since he has left, he has made a name for himself at clubs such as Rangers and Hull City.

At the age of 27, I believe that Aluko still has plenty to offer to the world of football and with his previous Championship experience, I think he could be an excellent player for us to have in our squad.

I believe that Rowett may have already watched the forward a couple of times this season with him being out of contract at the end of June so there could potentially be movement if both parties are interested in a move.

Last season, the ex-Aberdeen striker netted three times in 31 appearances in all competitions and I think if he came back to Blues, he would be a real success and he would have that connection with the fans that he wasn’t able to showcase during his first stint with the club.

2. CAMERON JEROME.

When Blues originally signed Jerome back in May 2006, he was an unknown quantity really but he made a name for himself during his time with the club and he is somebody that could be a real threat in the Sky Bet Championship next season.

His current club Norwich City have him under contract until June next summer but because they have other options to choose from, I would always go to them and ask the question about his availability because you never know, they might be willing to listen to offers on him.

During his time with Blues, he made over 125 appearances for us, scoring over 35 goals, and if he came back, I would rejoice because I personally think he is a fantastic striker and I believe he could easily play the one up front role perfectly for us.

Last term for the Canaries, the 29-year-old made 35 appearances in all competitions but unfortunately for him, he only managed to find the back of the net three times.

3. FEDERICO MACHEDA.

Since his move to Cardiff City, Macheda hasn’t really made the impact that he would have been hoping for and for that reason, I believe Blues would be able to prize him away from the Bluebirds for an absolute bargain.

In the second half of the 2015/16 season, the 24-year-old Italian striker was sent out on loan to fellow Championship side Nottingham Forest but again he failed to make an impact there meaning that in total, he only managed to make 11 appearances in all competitions, failing to score once.

However, despite his stats being horrifically poor, I believe that Macheda would be a good striker to have in our squad because given the right service and opportunities, I think he could be a 15 goal a season striker.

Whatever Cardiff are asking, they will be making a profit on him seen as they signed him for a free and since he is a little bit of a hero around St.Andrews due to the fact that he was part of the side that escaped relegation on the last day of the season against Bolton Wanderers, I think lots of people would love to see him back at Blues.

Out of the three strikers that have been listed, personally, I would love to see Jerome back at the club because I think he is a very good striker, but if I am being honest, the most likely one could be Macheda.

Blues fans, out of the three strikers that have been suggested, which one would you most like to see back down St.Andrews? Let us know in the comment section down below!
