Lech Poznan’s attempts to prize Tomasz Kuszczak away from St. Andrew’s and back to his native Poland have been rebuffed.

The 34 year-old goalkeeper, who was born 95 miles away from Poznan in
Krosno Odrzańskie, was a target for the Ekstraklasa side but their initial enquiry was immediately rejected by Birmingham City.

Kuszczak has been plying his trade in England since 2004 for various clubs including Manchester United, West Bromwich Albion and Blues. It is thought he will return to Poland one day either as a player or a coach. However, Vital Blues understand that he is not yet ready to uproot his family and is happy in Birmingham.

Kuszczak was Blues’ first choice ‘keeper last term making 42 appearances and fans have taken to his charismatic style between the sticks.

After a shaky start to his time at St. Andrew’s – mainly due to his inconsistent handling – the Pole has been outstanding while pulling off some showstopping saves.

Adam Legzdins is likely to battle it out with Kuszczak for the number one jersey come August.
