Jacques Maghoma is the new recruit on the block, which will hopefully start an averlanche of new signings for the club.
He has spoken to the official Birmingham City site and in this interview he expressed how well the fans at Birmingham get behind the team; a pivotal part in him signing.
He also goes on to say how he would love to regain his scoring form from his Burton Albion days and regards himself as a creative player.
However, it is one thing being a prolific goalscorer in League Two and it’s another thing replicating such form in the Championship. In my opinion, he is seen to have lost his way since 2012, with several lacklustre performances. The exciting thing about transfers is that the player can often find a new lease of life, something both Rowett and the fans want from Maghoma.
Half the battle is attitude, though, and I do believe that Maghoma has the desire to better himself. He mentions numerous times of the official BCFC site that he wants the Blues to get to the Premier League and he will ‘work his socks off’ to achieve said goal.
This desire is charming but it is just words unless he can perform on the pitch.
The timing of the transfer is a big plus as he can partake in pre-season. This not only gains fitness for the player, it also helps to embed a team spirit; something that is vital for any team.
I think that Maghoma may start off slowly, adjusting to the way that the Blues play, despite knowing Rowett’s style and therefore, it is whether he has the character to overcome a slow start. He is a good addition to the squad at this stage.
