The transfer rumours have started…already!

With Birmingham City’s Sky Bet Championship season over, there was no doubt that the transfer rumours would obviously start flying around but I have to admit, I didn’t think they would start this soon.

Despite there not being anything on players leaving the club as of yet, for a fee that is, as six players have already been released including Lee Novak and Mark Duffy, there have been a few whispers of players who might be coming into the club.

Although none of these are definite and some of them will probably never happen, it is always nice to see us linked with players early on because in my eyes it shows a sign of intent from Gary Rowett.

With more familiar names like Jon Toral and Ryan Shotton being thrown around before the season had even finished, it was clear to see that there were going to be quite a few names liked with the club and with both expressing a desire to potentially return to the club, why not encourage that speculation.

Arsenal man, Toral, admitted that the 2015/16 season at Blues was a fantastic one for him and after scooping three awards at the end of the season shindig, you can see why he might want to return! I mean come on, what’s not to love about the young man! Good with the ball at his feet, knows where the back of the net is and he clearly likes it here in the second city.

The same can be said about Shotton. When he first arrived at the club, I admit it, I didn’t think the move was going to work out but when Rowett moved him to centre back I thought he was the best thing since sliced bread!

His ability to win headers that looked unwinnable, his desire to play out from the back and not just hoof it up field like Michael Morrison does sometimes and his tenacity in both boxes is something that we can all hopefully look forward to seeing more next season should he sign for us in the summer.

Moving away from the two names that have been mumbled about since the January transfer window, there have been three new faces connected with Blues and all three could potentially happen.

Very early on, it was reported that Blues were interested in Bristol Rovers hotshot Matty Taylor, a league two goal machine who had found the back of the net 28 times in the fourth tier of English football, averaging a goal every two to three matches.

Way back in August, Taylor featured against Rowett’s side but failed to make an impact as Rovers lost 2-1 in the Capital One Cup and although the rumours were very heavy for a day or so, they were quickly shot down but this one could be one to keep an eye on.

Lifting ourselves up a division now and a few weeks back we were linked with Charlton Athletic defender Morgan Fox. Earlier this week, I highlighted him as one of the players we should be looking to sign as he is a very exciting young prospect who plays at left back and I think this move will happen over the summer.

With the Addicks dropping down into League One, Fox will want to keep playing at the highest level possible that is available to him and if Blues can put the right package together for him then what’s to say he won’t want to move to B9?

Finally, the biggest name that has been linked with us so far is Sunderland striker Danny Graham. This is a move that I am still on the fence about because although he ended the season well with Blackburn Rovers, the 30-year-old has always had that little bit of inconsistency about him and Blues certainly don’t need that.

This move for me wouldn’t be the best option for Blues because of a few factors. To start it all off, the money that Graham will be expecting is probably out of Blues’ price cap and I don’t think we should break it for a striker who probably can’t do the job that Clayton Donaldson can.

Then you have to look at his age. The whole reason Rowett wants a new striker is because Donaldson is getting on a bit now, 32, so why would he want to sign a 30-year-old who will only have a few seasons left in his tank?

Out of the five players that have been linked with a move to Blues, I would personally like to see Toral, Shotton and Fox make moves to St.Andrews because I think they could really help our push for the play-offs next season.

Blues fans, which players would you like to see brought in this summer from the five that have already been mentioned? Let us know in the comment section down below!
