The Birmingham Derby is Back

Birmingham City will play Aston Villa in the next round of the Capital One Cup. The game is to be played at Villa Park the week Commencing 21st September. I know the fans on both sides will want to go for it, but will the managers stick to their regimes of rotating the teams in the League Cup?

The Blues sunk Gillingham 2-0 at home last night to earn their place in the draw. Whilst Aston Villa controversially beat Notts County in a 5-3(AET) thriller.

This game has certainly been a long time in the making. Since Birmingham lost their battle to stay in the Premier League in 2011 the teams have not met. However they still boast knocking their rivals out in the quarter final of their Carling Cup winning run that very same year.

No doubt the clash will see renewed rivalry as both sets of supporters eagerly await the battle between their new managers. But as always we here at Vital hope for a peaceful Derby that makes the city proud and not ashamed.

Gary Rowett will line up against Villa for the first time as Birmingham City manager, but as a former player himself, he knows exactly what writing in on the wall in this one. Rowett has had a very successful tenure with Blues and he could catapult himself into hero status by knocking Villa out of the next round.

Will it be a second string team? Leave your thoughts below.
