Barry Bannan has committed his future to Sheffield Wednesday after stating he wants to see out his career at the Owls.

The Sheffield Star still believe that both us and Middlesbrough are “admirers” of the Scottish international but it seems the 28-year-old wants to stay put at Hillsborough.

The playmaker has just one year left on his contract at the club, prompting speculation he could move on, but he is confident of extending his current deal:

“I know I’ve got a year left on my contract but there is plenty of time to sort it out. I’ve made it clear I want to finish my career here if I can. I love it here. I’m just focused on doing what’s right for me and doing what’s right for the club. I want to play football and stay at this club.”

I know many would have been against us signing Bannan anyway due to his previous associations with Villa. Still, we do need a creative midfield player to improve our record in front of goal next season.

We certainly improved in the final third under Garry Monk in the last two months of the campaign, but we do need to strengthen in attacking areas.

I’m sure the manager knows this, but his hands may be tied due to the reported transfer embargo situation. Would you have wanted Bannan at St Andrew’s? Let me know in the poll:

  • P.s. and that’s not because he played for Villa it’s because he’s not good enough we need better than that. And he’s getting on.

  • Midfield is certainly the area that needs urgent attention. With Davis out for possibly many months, the thought of Gardner,Keifenbeld and Ndoye really is not good.Whether we have reserve additions like Larkin and O’Keefe who can step up is down to Monk. This Championship will be a tough arena for most teams and those who have weak deficiencies will soon be found out.As we stand I would put us down in that category.Villa have quickly sorted themselves out, like other teams who had FFP problems and carried on with reinforcements to their squads. We sadly are lagging well behind with a very unwelcomed ‘Pedersen’ query. Monk’s silence is even more concerning especially after last nights friendly against Doncaster. Today at Kidderminster their is another match and should Monk react the same way as last night, then I will be even more concerned as to what is going on.

  • WAWAW ???? ???? We’ve got Bannan… Barry Bannan… I just don’t think you understand ???? If he was to go anywhere, he’d certainly be looking for an upwards move, not a move to Birmingham City. Fulham or a lower end Premier League side would be far more of a fit
