Blues fans have been split on many issues down the years, but the latest one is regarding Paul Robinson. The veteran defender has been shortlisted as a nominee for the Championship ‘player of the month`.

Robinson, 37 in December, scored two goals in as many games in October and started a run of consecutive games after waiting patiently for his chance which came after an injury to Jonathan Spector.

The Watford-born captain, who was Blues’ player of the year just a couple of seasons ago, received a fair deal of criticism last season after a few inept performances. This season, his form has been relatively good – good enough to see him nominated for the award.

But a minority of Blues fans aren`t happy unless they have a scapegoat and, for some, Robbo is now that man.

“He cost us a goal”, one said. And there was me thinking football was a team game. Name me one player who has never cost his team a goal.

Obviously, at his age, Robbo can be exposed when up against pace. But his performances on the whole were commendable and he was a big part of the team that shipped only a solitary goal in four games in September and October.

But of course, some will never give him credit where it is due.

For the majority of Blues fans, Robbo deserves this recognition after shrugging off the criticism and bouncing back with some very solid performances.

With Spector fit again, and Robinson in need of a rest, he will again wait in the wings until his next opportunity. And most Blues fans will welcome him back.
