Last week, the yearly awards are being given out to players, well mainly to Jon Toral. So we thought we would join in and nominate our own winners.

The first award that I have decided upon is moment of the season. For me, this has to be the 5-2 win against Fulham. At the time, we were going through a bit of a tricky spell, with not the best link up play between the midfield and attack. In this game, it was almost a lightbulb moment. The spark came into the team, whereby every attack was threatening and we looked like scoring for a large part of the game. It was also a memorable game because Viv scored his first goal for the club and his celebration with Gray showed just how much he wants to be part of our wonderful club. The fact that we used youth and it paid off, shows what our club is all about and this is why it was such a great game. The only problem was the fact that we conceded two despite Fulham being down to 10 men. It is disappointing to concede in most games, but the way in which we did was very sloppy and I am glad we were able to tighten up the defence later on in the season.

The second award is for player of the season. I have looked at this as someone who has inspired the rest of the players and the club in order to progress. I have chosen Paul Robinson. This is because he was written off at the start of the season; many fans were saying that he was past his best and should have taken up a role as a coach. He was aware of all of this and yet came out fighting. He put in some crunching tackles which have kept us in games and his partnership with Morrison has flourished throughout the season. He has really shone as an inspiration, in particular his snapchats on a match day surely must help others feel more calm. That is just the fans! It may seem like a strange choice but I am looking at the overall impact on the club, and so Paul got my vote.

The third award for me, well I say award, it’s more like a wooden spoon award is the biggest flop of the season. For me personally, this is Grounds. He had such a consistent season last season, being a very solid right back, especially defending wise. But this season, he has looked tired and often seems incapable of matching the pace of other wingers. This is also shown in his own lack of pace with getting forward and not being able to contribute a lot in attack. I had high hopes for him this season and yet, he has let me down unfortunately. Hoping a break will do him good.

Finally, it is goal of the season. There is only one winner here and this is Jon Toral’s excellent strike against Ipswich. To make it even better, the game was where we scored 3 without reply to beat what was a very good side in the Tractor Boys. The move was brilliant with the ball being played from the goalkeeper all the way through the midfielder, before he fired the ball from well outside of the box to score a great goal. It was magnificent and I do hope we get to see him at St Andrews again next year!
