Neal Eardley is a fine example of the flip side of being a footballer. At the age of 27, the Welshman`s career is hanging by a thread after being released by Birmingham City.

Despite clawing his way into the first team on three occasions this season, Eardley has been plagued by injuries. His latest injury was a damaged cruciate ligament which has ruled him out of action since January.

His release from St. Andrew`s will come as no great surprise to him, but would be met with disappointment. On the plus side, he is now free to concentrate on building up his fitness and finding himself a club.

In three seasons at Blues, the right back has played just 21 times which, when compared to Paul Caddis` 158 appearances, is a travesty.

Blues manager Gary Rowett will be looking to strengthen his squad in the summer and a replacement for Eardley (and competition for Caddis) is an area in need.
