Earlier today we brought you the news that Birmingham City manager Harry Redknapp is reportedly lining up a move for Bournemouth defender Marc Wilson as cover for current centre backs Ryan Shotton and Michael Morrison.

Although he isn’t a name that would scream at you on a piece of paper that had ten transfer targets on it, Wilson would actually prove to be a smart buy for the club.

At 29, Wilson has plenty of experience in both the Premier League and the Championship and that is something that Blues could really do with because although the squad that Redknapp currently has at his disposal has some knowledge of the second tier, somebody like Wilson could prove to be a great buy.

This season, Wilson has had very limited chances with both his parent club, the Cherries, and his loan side, West Bromwich Albion, making just eight appearances for the pair, scoring once for Eddie Howe’s side in the 2-1 win in the EFL cup against Morecambe.

His lack of match fitness from this season might not prove to be a problem for next season, especially if he manages to have a full preseason with the club, but this is all going on whether he would actually sign for Blues.

With Shotton and Morrison being challenged by Redknapp to create a strong partnership next season, any defender that is brought in will have to do something very special to knock to pair out of the starting line up but it is a challenge I am sure somebody of Wilson’s ilk would happily take on.

For me, signing someone with Wilson’s experience is something that Redknapp has to do this summer because with Paul Robinson likely to hang his boots up, Blues need a little bit more experience in the squad and I feel like Wilson could be the man.

Blues fans, would you like to see the club make a move to sign Marc Wilson this summer to challenge Ryan Shotton and Michael Morrison next season? Let us know in the comment section down below!
