Steve McClaren taking over the reins at Derby County and Steve Bruce checking in at Villa Park proves the point that you have to take everything you read in the national media with a pinch of salt.

A number of national newspapers claimed last week that Gary Rowett was ‘set to be interviewed and is in pole position for the Derby job`. That is categorically untrue. Another source claimed that Rowett ‘will be unveiled as Villa boss`. Again, utter rubbish. Birmingham City did not receive an approach for their manager, nor would they welcome one.

Now it`s time to give Rowett some credit. He won`t be at Blues forever but his head will not be turned by every job that comes up. Time and time again, he has gone on record to say he ‘loves` his job at Blues.

In today`s Birmingham Mail, Rowett admitted his ‘excitement` over the forthcoming takeover by Paul Suen and Trillion Trophy Asia. And indirectly, the manager has had assurances over his job. End of story. Rowett is staying for the foreseeable future.

The January transfer window is just over eleven weeks away and it set to be a massive one for Blues and Rowett. January could be the defining point of a season that defines whether Blues are genuine promotion contenders or just a tease and Rowett intends on being the man who tests the waters.

Now let`s concentrate on the football.
