Birmingham City are eyeing up a late deal to bring former midfielder Jordon Mutch back to St. Andrew’s, the Daily Mail are reporting.

The 25-year-old spent five years with Blues coming through the youth system before playing a key role in helping Chris Hughton’s side reach the 2011/12 play-offs.

Mutch joined Cardiff for around £1m at the end of that season and went on to gain promotion to the Premier League with the Welsh side.

He has since played for Queens Park Rangers, Reading (loan) and is currently plying his trade at Crystal Palace where he has been told he can leave.

Harry Redknapp has identified Mutch as a player that can bolster his midfield and knows him well having worked with him at QPR. Blues face competition from Leeds United for his signature.

  • Cheap and cheerful again sums it all up.However, could be a signing that keeps us out of the bottom three and that’s all that matters this season.

  • This failure to sign top players so far has really put a damper on things …the fans needed to be kept on a high as the season start got nearer …fans and players are losing faith and patience which is not good for the club ..

  • David.you are of course right. My findings over the last three weeks have been quite intense, and I have mainly aimed my comments towards Le Hane who has been steadfastly positive about it all.Careful is what I need to state but this season is a survival one at worse and a mid table position at best.We now all realise the early summer talk of great hope was fairly insulting and condescending to mature fans with our manager not shying away from the money circus. He is a lucky man to get such a good job at the time-just a pity he couldn’t be a bit more open with what is available.Warchest headlines today adds so much more insults.

  • We may as well sign Ravel Morrison. He’ll be cheaper than Mutch and be a much better signing. I knew Acquah wasn’t happening. As Ohio says a load of bull being fed to the fans. Not sure how much Harry knows but wouldn’t be surprised if he has been fed some crap as well.

  • LOL you all need too chill. HR is the king of the last day last minute sining. He would not stick around if the money was not there and would not have agreed to stay this season had he nothing to work with. I is obviously clubs pushing prices up at the last minute not our club nitpicking.
