Birmingham City have a big task on their hands if they are going to prize Afriyie Acquah away from Torino, after their manager Sinisa Mihajlovic confirmed that he wanted to keep the player.

It was thought that Blues were close to sealing a club-record deal to bring Acquah to St. Andrew’s but the goalposts have now changed.

A bid from Blues has been knocked back and Mihajlovic has said: “I was opposed to his sale. The bid from Birmingham too low, he will stay with us.”

The news comes as a big blow to Harry Redknapp who is extremely keen to continue strengthening his squad ahead of Thursday’s transfer deadline.

Today’s 2-0 home defeat to Reading only reinforced what Redknapp already knew – he needs to bring more quality to the squad and he’ll be looking to do just that in the coming days.

  • I wouldn’t trust HR to bring in another player.Every player, including the goalkeeper is no better to what we already had.Ndoye a disaster in this league,Bramall no better than Grounds.Roberts no better than Shotton.Redknapp has destroyed the confidence in Cotterill and Shotton. He is a yesterday manager and it is beginnings nag to show. Bottom three will be a normal placing for us unless he walks and lets a younger educated coach take over. We need saving and that’s a fact. Bring back Kusczak and Shotton for starters and play Davis and Gardner together. Must get rid of the hapless Ndoye.

  • Lastly the Acquah and Downing sagas will not do us a bit of good. Check them both out and you will see for yourselves.Rowett with the money HR has been given would have had us nowhere near 4th bottom.
