Lee Clark will look inside the club to replace the injured Gavin Gunning at Centre back.
Gunning was injured in Tuesday`s game against Cambridge and will miss the next six months. Lee Clark has revealed he won`t be going out to sign anyone else just yet.
Will Packwood is being lined up to take over the role of supporting Grant Hall and Paul Robinson at left back. Grounds will stay at left back and David Edgar is being deployed in midfield.
USA born, Packwood is the last remaining pure centre back with games under his belt and recorded a commanding performance in the USA U23`s game and Birmingham`s last development squad game.
The way in which Clark is going about replacing Gunning to me is the correct one. If you sign someone else, what happens to the players when Gunning comes back? Someone is going to be dropped, potentially they came in for a fee and their wages are now being wasted as they no longer feature in Clark’s plans. On top of that, bringing in someone else now tells all the younger talent below Gunning that they aren`t going to get a chance. I would prefer to be the kind of club that gives youth players that chance, as it has worked for us before.
Birmingham take on Brighton today and Packwood may well be on the bench behind Robinson and Hall in the starting line-up.
