Birmingham City emerged victorious yesterday after Wes Thomas scored the all important goal for the three points.

Lee Novak started brightly with a long range effort from 30 yards. Jake Forster-Caskey delivered a corner in shortly after, Craig Makail-Smith headed over.

Brighton keeper Stockdale was then called into action. First by Caddis with a low strike from 18 yards. Spector then rifled a shot from the right.

Cotterill also contributed with a low shot after cutting in. Stockdale did well to keep Blues at bay. Chris O’Grady had an opportunity to nick a goal before half time but Randolph gathered.

Shortly after half time O’Grady powered a header at goal, Randolph equal to it again. Wes Thomas then broke the deadlock for the boys in royal blue. Cotterill worked a cross in from the right and Wes Thomas rose to head home 1-0.

Brighton hit back, Randolph tipped Jake Forster-Caskey’s Well Struck 20 yard free kick. Birmingham threatened with their own free kick as well. Cotterill went close from 25 yards.

Blues were to threaten again this time Donaldson couldn’t prod home after Stockdale spilled a Cotterill shot.

Birmingham finished 1-0 winners in their first home game of the season.
