Out of danger or out of a job?

What a frustrating week it has been for Blues fans. Firstly, the manager is backed despite the majority of fans wanting his head on a stick and secondly, the club announced further losses.

But as we travel to Nottingham Forest tomorrow needing a win to stay in touch with the teams above, just how secure is Steve Cotterill’s job?

Sure, he’s been backed after ‘positive meetings’ with the chairman who, evidently, he had never previously met. But surely, that is only a temporary measure.

Should Blues suffer another miserable defeat at the City Ground (assuming the game isn’t postponed) the atmosphere in the away end could become toxic.

How will the board react then? They have hardly shown themselves to be the most patient of people in the past.

Assuming Cotterill is a couple of defeats away from the sack, he could leave Blues at the foot of the table. Only 12 games remain this season ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Forest – surely a new manager will be sounded out if we lose.

Even then, the new man will have limited time to save Blues from dropping into League One. Therefore, is it an attractive job? I think not. Why would Garry Monk, Paul Clement, or whoever it may be, risk their reputation by taking on what seems to be a poisened chalice?

Hiring a new manager – a decent one – could be much tougher than the hierachy think.

I dread to think what season ticket sales will be like if Cotterill happens to be in charge during the summer.
