On Saturday evening, summer signing Greg Stewart made his St.Andrews debut and it is one that he will be sure to tell his future grandchildren about.

Although he wasn’t on the pitch for a long period of time, his appearance was one that certainly got Blues fans talking following some stunning runs with the ball at his feet, including the one in the build up to Lukas Jutkiewiczs’ 92nd minute winner.

To add to his first home appearance, Stewart also bagged his first Blues goal earlier today (Monday September 19th), and even though it was in a comprehensive win for the under 23’s against Cardiff City (4-0), those sort of performances will continue to give Blues boss Gary Rowett selection headaches.

In all fairness, it is credit to the 26-year-old forward for getting himself into the matchday 18 and coming on ahead of last seasons first choice winger David Cotterill, who, lets face it, has been under fire for some months now.

Yes, he may not add the direct threat from set pieces that Cotterill does, but what he does add it the desire to go forward, go inside and out, and just run at defenders, which in my opinion is something the Welshman doesn’t do anymore.

When you look at the likes of Jonathan Grounds who has really impressed in recent weeks because of the competition that has been added to the squad, you would have expected the same sort of fight from Cotterill, but in actual fact, it looks as though Stewart is the one who is willing to fight for his place more.

Again, that is where Blues fans should applaud Stewart and give him plenty of credit because some people may have thought that he has just moved to the club to pick up a bigger wage packet, but it looks as though he is ready to prove what he is about and he is out there to prove people wrong.

For me, when January comes round, Cotterill is someone who should be sold based on the few glimpses we have seen of Stewart because I believe his time at Birmingham City may have come to an end.

Blues fans, do you agree that Greg Stewart deserves to be in the match day 18 ahead of David Cotterill? Would the Welshman be somebody you would sell in January? Let us know in the comment section down below!
