The Birmingham Mail have created a little bit of a storm today with their story suggesting that Blues` new owners may look to replace Gary Rowett with their own man. Firstly, while many takeovers result in a handing over of the managerial reigns, nothing has been mooted to suggest that Trillion Trophy Asia (TTA) are considering replacing Rowett.

Whether it is slow news day or someone at the Mail knows more than they can let on, I cannot see Rowett losing his job. An impressive start to the season has followed a complete transition during his two years at the club with little or no money. While that financial picture is considerably better than it has been recently, Rowett should be the man to benefit from any windfall that follows the completion of the takeover.

You`d imagine that funds will be made available to spend in the January transfer window but the exact figure is unclear. This time last season, Rowett was crying out for extra funds to instil added quality to the ranks. However, the squad has gradually improved in both quality and numbers so this time round, it may be difficult to improve what he already has without shopping alongside the Championship`s ‘big boys`.

Perhaps a permanent left back – Rhoys Wiggins or someone else – to add competition. Maybe Rowett could also add Lukas Jutkiewicz on a permanent basis as a like-for-like back-up to Clayton Donaldson. But aside from that, where do you find better players than the players we already have without spending a fortune?

TTA have already provided financial backing to get various deals over the line – including the capture of Che Adams from Sheffield United. That deal looked to be dead in the water, Blues appeared to have been priced out of it until TTA stepped in and offered the extra money. Would they have done that if they didn`t have faith in Rowett? Very unlikely.

The Blues manager was correct when he claimed that improving on last season`s tenth place finish would be difficult. It wasn`t him being a pessimist, it was an honest assessment of how tough the league can be. But at present, Blues seem to be making a decent fist of it both on and off the pitch. It may or may not last – the only certainty is that Rowett is the man to lead Blues forward.
