So the last minute goal to beat Sheffield Wednesday last weekend wasn’t quite a Caddis moment, but it left us Blues’ fans feeling ecstatic to say the least. The last minute winner certainly showed that Birmingham are no push overs this season and it was made even better due to the revenge of Sheffield Wednesday whom made sure that the Blues’ were not play off contenders last season. The goal for Lukas Jutkiewicz on a level of the team, was brilliant. He came on to score and he did. So is that what he is good at?

Some players have the ability to impact games in different time periods. Some are like engines that power through the whole 90 minutes at a pretty consistent level. I’d like to think Kieftenbeld is one of those players and they’re valuable to the team. Squad players are also valuable as it takes a special mindset; they have to be fully prepared to get stuck into the game. To reach the high intensity of the game is tough as if the player reacts too soon then this may cause them to have an injury. Some players take a while to get going too whilst a sub needs to make an impact almost straight away.

With Lukas Jutkiewicz, he has done his job so well, that he may know be seen as an impact player off of the bench. The adrenaline of coming on is clearly a good thing for him and he didn’t panic under pressure when the cross came to him on Saturday; burying a rather difficult header past the keeper. If you have a player that can come off the bench, when the other team is tiring, and make a difference then they will continue to be utilised in this way. Adams and Donaldson are above Lukas Jutkiewicz in the order of strikers and so it is unlikely that he will be picked to start a lot of games. So it is even more handy that he can come on and make a real difference.

This season, we are looking strong in the attacking department. Stronger than the past few seasons that’s for sure and this means that not only will we score more goals which is obvious, it also means that the ball will not be played over the top quite as often by the opposition as we defend from the front. It is all very, very positive for the season.
