Birmingham City have made an audacious loan offer for Crystal Palace striker Dwight Gayle, according to The Football Forecast.
Gayle joined the Eagles from Peterborough United for a figure believed to be in the region of £4.5m just two years ago. During his time at Selhurst Park, the 25 year-old has made 55 appearances scoring 18 goals.
Reports linking him with Blues are unconfirmed and contradict other sources suggesting a move to Fulham is imminent. A source close to Birmingham City declined to comment when addressed about the story.
Fulham manager Kit Symons has gone on record to speak of his pursuit of a centre forward with Gayle looking likely to complete a move across London in the coming days, despite being named amongst Palace`s 25-man squad. Likewise, Blues manager Gary Rowett is targeting a front-man but Gayle may be out of the clubs financial reach.
With another reported Blues target, Adam Le Fondre, heading to Wolves on a season-long loan deal, Rowett may bide his time and use the loan market to its full extent.
With top flight clubs due to submit their 25-man squad to the Premier League shortly, the Blues boss may look to take advantage of any unassigned players.
