Blues boss has his say on the new boy in midfield
Birmingham City boss, Gary Rowett, had a lot of praise for his new man Maikel Kieftenbeld following his 60 minute debut. Rowett labeled his new midfielder a ‘terrific player’ after watching him make his debut for the club against Leicester.
‘Very, very composed on the ball, he picks up good positions defensively. I think you saw his intelligence when once or twice he filled in little holes from people going forward.’
It is no secret Rowett puts a lot of onus on the tactical side of the game and he was impressed in that respect as well. The manager praised how Kieftenbeld filled in for his team mates as they decided to venture further forward.
‘On the ball he made some lovely passes and again showed what a really good signing he`ll become.’
Maikel Keiftenbeld is a new arrival at Birmingham City after the club broke his minimum fee release clause, believed to be around £170,000. The midfield general is a tackling battler that still manages to provide easy on the eye passes, finding team mates in advanced positions.
Blues set to partner him with Stephen Gleeson on Saturday to kick off their Championship campaign.
