No Heskey In The Championship?

It has all gone deadly quiet on the Birmingham City news front and most of what is being reported appears to be re-hashes of old quotes.

Seems the press is insistent on reporting repeated links to an exit for Emile Heskey, the latest suggesting Wigan want the former Liverpool and England striker and that the Blues might be interested in a swap deal for Jason Roberts. Blackburn Rovers have also been said to be monitoring the players availability.

But Bruce insisted last week in the Birmingham Mail that Blues do not have to sell any players in order to fund new arrivals. He also says they don’t want to get rid of Emile Heskey, Jermain Pennant or Mikael Forssell and that they are in fact looking at bringing more players in.

‘I keep seeing and reading about Emile going for £2 million and what have you, but it’s absolute rubbish.’ But ‘If we get what we consider to be the right offer for any of our players then those offers will be considered carefully. Ideally, we don’t want to let anyone go and certainly not on the cheap.’

I’m not quite sure why former Coventry boss Gary McAllister has had to stick his beak in but he says in the Birmingham Mail that Heskey ‘will be a real force next season if he’s still at the club. That’s the big question; can they manage to hold on to him? Or, can they afford to hold on to him?’

He says we struggled when the 27-year-old striker didn’t play last season adding ‘I don’t see Emile playing in the Championship.’

Not sure about that, with just four goals to his name last season, do we really expect a long queue of clubs wanting to pay top price for him?
