Former Birmingham City striker Andrew Johnson has said, in a report in The Sun, that relegation with Crystal Palace has cost him a place in the World Cup squad. AJ has made it to the reserve list but looks highly unlikely to be called upon with the more experienced Spurs striker Jermain Defoe ahead of him in the England pecking order.

Former blue nose, who moved to Everton last week for over £8million, said:

“I think I could have had a good chance of getting into the full squad if I had been playing in the Premiership all last season. Instead, I stayed at Palace and scored 17 goals. But I know that if we hadn`t been relegated and I`d scored 10 or 12 goals with Palace in the Premiership then I might have been in with a good chance of going. But I have no regrets that I stayed that extra year at Selhurst Park and I have always said ‘what will be, will be`.”

With the shocking inclusion of Theo Walcott I’m not sure that I go along with AJ’s thinking on this one?
