Legzdins’ second chance at Blues

After losing Darren Randolph to West Ham United, it was imperative that Blues drafted in a ‘keeper. Several names were linked to the club but Gary Rowett’s number one target was unknown. Whether that was Adam Legzdins, or whether Rowett had to work down his list until he signed one, is also unknown.

Some Blues fans are left feeling a little underwhelmed at the signing of a player the club released seven years ago. Is it desperation? Or is Legzdins a good stopper? Rowett obviously rates him and this could prove to be a shrewd signing, if not a headline grabbing one.

The Penkridge born goalkeeper’s last Championship experience came at Derby County between 2011-2014, where he made 35 appearances. He had a brief spell as their number one. Since then, he has been at Burton Albion and Leyton Orient before eventually making his way back to St. Andrew’s. Judging by his age, 28, Legzdins is of a good age for a man between the sticks and will finally get a chance to make his Birmingham City first team bow – more than a decade after joining the academy.

While Randolph was a good Championship ‘keeper with an experienced back-up in Colin Doyle, the Legzdins – Townsend duo is somewhat of an unknown quantity and it will be interesting to see how it pans out.

Personally, I welcome the signing of a former young Blue, it is quite a romantic football story to be given your second chance years down the line. My only hope is, Legzdins can prove to be a competent number one so Blues are not left weakened after the departure of Randolph. In Rowett I trust.
