The future of Birmingham City midfielder Reece Brown looks set to be a bright one. However, the season ahead will determine whether the young midfielders talents are nurtured at St Andrews or elsewhere. As Brown heads into the final year of his contract he must be feeling the pressure to force his way into Gary Rowett’s plans. If he fails to do so, Brown could find himself on the football scrap heap.

Brown made an encouraging start to life in a blues shirt with some impressive displays against some tough opposition in Burnley and Premier League side Swansea City. He also earn’t himself the man of the match award on his home debut against Yeovil, in what was the only good thing to come from yet another home loss. Brown looked set to be a regular in the Blues side for years to come, his brilliant passing abilities and vibrant energy in the middle of the park had all Birmingham City fans purring.

Things have somewhat changed for Brown, he’s struggled to establish himself in the Blues squad and therefore failed to make a first team start throughout the whole of last seasons campaign. He put in some solid displays in his early season loan spell at league one side Notts County. Brown failed to impress enough to gain a loan extension. Although Brown has gained some recognition from manager Gary Rowett, it remains to be seen as to whether he has a place in the plans of the Blues gaffer.

It seems this season could be make or break for Reece Brown, I feel it would be criminal to let the youngster slip through the net and head onto the football scrap heap. However, if he can’t show Gary Rowett and his back room staff that he has what it takes to become a fully fledged first teamer, it could be best for Reece Brown and Birmingham City to go their separate ways.

Do you think Reece Brown can make it at Blues?
