Birmingham City fans can add St. James’ Park to their list of away days after Newcastle United were relegated last night.

The Toon Army, led by Rafa Benitez, had their demotion confirmed after their arch rivals, Sunderland, pulled off the great escape with a 3-0 win against Everton at the Stadium of Light.

Norwich City also had their fate sealed despite a 4-2 win over Watford at Carrow Road.

Newcastle, Norwich and Villa have a combined stadium capacity of 122,434, the largest ever between three relegated clubs.

The future remains uncertain for Newcastle’s manager Benitez. Just five months ago, the Spaniard was managing Real Madrid – so sitting in the dugout at Rotherham, Huddersfield and Burton Albion wasn’t on the agenda.

Norwich are likely to give their manager, Alex Neil, the chance to bring the club back into the big time. Neil is only 34 years-old and has showed glimpses of managerial promise after bringing the Canaries up via the play-offs last season.
