Birmingham City manager Gianfranco Zola hopes to add a striker to his squad before the transfer window closes on Tuesday evening.

The Italian is concerned at Blues’ lack of firepower after nine games without a win.

Vital Blues understands that Zola’s previous target, Derby County’s Johhny Russell, is back on the radar but only if Derby lower their £4m asking price for the 26-year-old who has scored 28 goals in 162 appearances.

Other player remain on Zola’s wanted list, including sought after Robin Quaison, but whether any deal gets over the line before Tuesday is unclear.

The Blues manager has signed five players this month.
