Birmingham City have ruled out signing Bournemouth winger Max Gradel.

Gianfranco Zola did make an enquiry for the 29-year-old but didn’t pursue it. And yesterday it emerged that Watford had a £4m bid for the player rejected.

Zola is keen to add an attacking player to his squad, and is even considering a defender, before the transfer window slams shut on Tuesday night.

Having already made five signings this month, Zola will have to plan his next move wisely and within financial parameters.

  • We now can’t afford Gradel ….The fact is we didn’t have enough of a transfer kitty to buy enough quality players in the first place…The fact is that everybody wants something for nothing and those who have something want nothing more than something is worth …So unless you pay more than what something is worth nothing will come of it ….

  • Max won’t make the Grade at Birmingham City?. You main He is not interested in playing In the championship. Defender we already have Dan Scarr he would easily adapt to Championship football and should be given that chance in a 3-4-3. The starting 11 would look something like this GK: Kuszcak, CD: Scarr, CD: Morrison, CD: Shotton, AWBL: Keita, AWBR: Nsue, CM: Gardner, CM: Kieftenbeld, IFL: Frei, IFR: Adams, CF: Jutkiewicz, SUBS: Legzdins, Grounds, Cogley, Tesche, Davis, Cotterill, Storer, I would give Storer a chance until Donaldson is fit.
