Stephen Kelly has apologised to fans who traveled to St Andrew’s after Reading were sent home with the tails between their legs.

In what was a harsh game on Reading, Birmingham were ruthless as they put 6 past a resilient Reading team. Demarai Gray managed a clinical first half hatrick to seal the result.

Kelly feels the two teams are similar and should be competing with each other.

All we can do is apologise to the fans that travelled up and paid to watch that.

“It`s not good enough to go away from home and lose 6-1 to Birmingham.

“They`ve done well recently but they are a team we should be competitive with.

As mentioned about, Blues were simply on point with every shot and it took the visitors by surprise.

“It was a strange, strange game. They just seemed like they were going to score every time they attacked. It was unbelievable.

“You get punished for making mistakes in this league and on Saturday we really did.

You won’t get many games where every shot is perfect and goes in at this level and we should savor the achievement. All credit to the team for bouncing back the way they did following a disappointing away loss at Blackpool.

Birmingham have momentum following a change in management and who knows how far it will take them. The team on the pitch, at least, are going from strength to strength.
