This weekend sees two Midlands rivals clash in front of the Sky Sports cameras with the visitors, Birmingham City, looking to clinch some crucial points in the race for a play-off spot.

Unlike their Midlands rivals, Wolverhampton Wanderers have considerably under performed this year with play-offs being the target at the start of the season but the club have fallen short of that target by the looks of things.

On Tuesday night, the two teams had contrasting results with Gary Rowett’s Birmingham City losing 2-0 on the road at Blackburn Rovers and Kenny Jackett’s men securing a 94th minute winner against Bristol City.

I would have loved to have chosen three Blues players for this weeks five-a-side team but sticking with tradition I have chosen three players from the Wolves squad and two from the Blues squad.

GK: Tomasz Kuszczak.

The former Wolves keeper is likely to get a mixed reception when he heads back to his old stomping ground on Sunday but with 14 clean sheets to his name, he was an easy selection for this weeks team.

Carl Ikeme has only managed to keep six clean sheets in 26 games for the Gold and Black team, which is pretty poor when you think about it, so he never really came into my consideration for this weeks goalkeeping spot.

DF: Matt Doherty.

In Wolves’ last game against Bristol City, Doherty scored the winner in the last minute of the game and his form has somewhat improved over the previous few league games.

Personally, I think if he plays on Sunday against Blues, he could cause us problems going forward, but there is definitely a weakness in his defensive part of his game that we can exploit.

However, despite his defensive weaknesses, his attacking side is the reason I have picked him for this weeks side because he has been a shining light in some poor Wolves performances in recent weeks and I thought it was only right that he had a place in this weeks team.

MF: George Saville and James Henry.

For this weeks midfield, I have opted to go with a Wolves duo who have hit a little bit of form in recent weeks (that and they also have very few attacking options!)

Saville recently found the back of the net twice in a 2-1 home win over Derby County and that has been one of his best performances in a Wolves shirt.

Like Doherty, in recent weeks, Saville has been progressing as a player and because I feel like he is in a bit of form at the moment, I thought it was only right that I included him in this weeks five-a-side team.

Next to Saville, I have chosen Henry who is Wolves top goalscorer. Since Benik Afobe left the club in January, Jackett’s side have been missing a threat in front of goal but in the last four fixtures, Henry has found the back of the net twice.

I think he could be a real problem for Blues coming up from a central midfield role and for that reason, I wanted him to be in this weeks team.

ST: Clayton Donaldson.

Although the Jamaican striker hasn’t really been hitting the target recently, I do think he is the linchpin of the Birmingham City side.

His tireless work rate, his ability to play other people in and also just to drag defenders away from the ball creating space for the likes of Jon Toral and Diego Fabbrini is something which goes unnoticed by a lot of people.

With seven goals to his name this season, Donaldson hasn’t really been very prolific for us, although he did have five weeks out injured over the Christmas period, but he has always been key to Rowett’s plans and I think he is key to this weeks five-a-side team!

Blues and Wolves fans, do you agree with this weeks five-a-side team? Could we have improved it? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section down below!
