Wolverhampton Wanderers are our next opponent in the football league and as it’s a derby match, we are hoping we end up on the right end of the results after 90 minutes of football has been played.

It’s not looking too promising however, as the official stats overall, throughout the years, point to Wolves getting all 3 points.
Games won: 40
Games drawn: 32
Games lost: 64
These stats count from when Birmingham used to play as Small Heath, so you can’t say we haven’t been thorough when compiling them! The first game ever between the two clubs was played in 1890 when Wolves were the victors with a 2-1 victory at home to Small Heath. This set the tone as they have won 24 more games than we have beaten them but we have won more times than we have drawn. This shows some positive signs if history is something to go by.

The last game between the two sides was at St Andrews this season. Wolves were high on confidence having flown up the league following a recent promotion from league one. This coincided with a bit of a patch for Birmingham City therefore the away side left with all 3 points. 18,946 fans watched the Blues’ lose 2-0 due to Edwards and Ojo goals.

The game between the two sides before that was on the 11th April 2015 where Birmingham City beat Wolves 2-1 at St Andrews. 19,330 fans saw the game which is a good turnout considering how this fixture would have fitted the Premier League. Benik Afobe score the opponents only goal of the game. The danger man is currently at Bournemouth after his transfer was completed this season. Gray and Kiernan were the Blues’ goalscorers.

Donaldson, Fabbrini

The away fixture in 2014 was a 0-0 draw contested at Wolves ground. The short distance for fans to travel meant that 25,135 fans managed to watch the game. Unfortunately for them, it ended in a bore draw. Not many of these draws have happened between the two sides but both defences ran out winners in what was a rather boring game to tell you the truth.

The game before that certainly brought more goals. St Andrews saw 5 goals but unfortunately the Blues’ faithful saw their side lose 3-2 to Wolves. April Fools Day 2013 summed up that particular season as 19,000 fans struggled through the game. Ebanks-Blake, the former united youth player, scored a penalty plus another goal in the first half. His team mate Hunt also scored to make the scoreline 3-0 at half time. Wade Elliot scored 2 for Birmingham to try and muster a comeback but it wasn’t to be.
