Could two upfront against Wigan work for Blues?

Earlier today, I predicted what the Birmingham City line up would be against Wigan Athletic on Tuesday night and even though I believe Gary Rowett will only make one change, with Robert Tesche taking Maikel Kieftenbeld’s place in the team, there could in fact be more changes.

I know that away from home, Rowett will want his team to be solid defensively and destructive when going forward and it will be interesting to see whether he does make more changes in order to try and take the game to Wigan rather than sitting back inviting the pressure.

Yes, we do well when the pressure is on us. Nine times out of ten, we soak the pressure up and then hit the home side on the counter attack, just like we did against Leeds United at the weekend for the first goal, but would it be worth playing two strikers for this game?

As much as I would like us to play with two up front, I can’t see it happening in a game away from St.Andrews but you never know!

For all we know, Blues could have been working on playing two up front quite a bit in training and Rowett may see the game against the Latics as one where playing two forwards may benefit us more than playing three in midfield.

If that was the case, the next question you have to ask yourself is who do you play in the two? With four first team strikers at Rowett’s disposal, it will be hard to choose but if you ask any Blues fan which two strikers they would play up front, I think the answer would be straight forward in my opinion.

Clayton Donaldson and Che Adams would be my choices out of the four that we have available, although you can never rule out the possibility of 18-year-old Jack Storer making an appearance, as I am sure he will throughout the season.

It wouldn’t necessarily have to be a straight forward two up front, the pair could rotate in the roles that they do. When Donaldson played with Storer on the opening day of the season, the teenager was playing just behind him meaning that the Jamaican was doing the work and providing the youngster with all the chances.

Personally, I think something like that could work with Adams and Donaldson, but only time will tell whether Rowett will change the way he plays in order to fit the pair in.

Blues fans, would you like to see Gary Rowett play two up front more often this season? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section down below!
