Captain Marvel is Blues’ linchpin

The win at Leeds United taught us many things about this Blues squad. But the most notable of things was the importance of Michael Morrison, our captain. To put it simply, Morrison is the first name on the team sheet week-in week-out.

At Elland Road, his whole demeanor was epitomised. From the first minute of the game, he shepherded his defence, organised the team and defended very well. And to top it all off, he scored the deciding goal.

Ryan Shotton, Morrison`s defensive partner, looked assured alongside the experience and know-how of the skipper. But the team as a whole look-up to the 28 year-old. When leaders are needed, Morrison comes to the fore.

Charlton made a massive mistake letting him go. When we first signed him on loan, I read a blog written by a Charlton fan which described the decision to loan him out as ‘a farce`. He said, and I quote- “How can we let a leader like Morrison go when we clearly have no organisation at the back and why do we insist on picking Tal Ben-Haim?”.

At the time, I took the words with a pinch of salt because, admittedly, I didn`t know a great deal about the player. But his performances since signing back in October 2014 have been a revelation. He came into a team that had just been annihilated by eight goals at home and had an instant impact, guiding the defence to a clean sheet at Wolves.

Gary Rowett, who made Morrison his first signing, has since built a team based on hard-work and organisation, something that Morrison oozes.

I dread to imagine the day that our captain is side-lined for a significant spell.
