Cotty Too Hotty

In football, stats don`t always represent the true reality of a situation. For instance, we all know that having copious amounts of possession is pointless without sticking the ball in the onion bag.

But one statistic nobody can argue with is the one that puts David Cotterill as Blues` main provider of assists for the second season in succession. In 30 appearances this season, the Welsh winger has contributed with seven assists and has even chipped in with four goals.

Cotterill`s value to the Blues team is massive but some fans are still torn on his presence. Not many players in the Championship boast such a deadly delivery of deal balls and crosses from open play.

The former Doncaster Rovers man has been involved in Blues` last seven goals and I wonder if, had Cotterill avoided a long injury lay-off earlier in the season, perhaps Blues could have snuck into sixth place.

On returning from injury he was understandably rusty. But with more and more game time under his belt, he became a focal point of Blues` attacking play.

The 28 year-old who will be heading to France with Wales for this summer`s Euro 2016 tournament, has returned to his very best form. His goal at Cardiff was the least he deserved after another quality performance.

Last season (2014/15) Cotterill was, statistically, the third most productive player in the Championship. This season, he has provided more goals than any other player. So why some fans question his ability is beyond me.
