The wait goes on for Vaughan

Luke Turner on James Vaughan’s failure to open his Blues goalscoring account…

I’m really starting to feel for James Vaughan. Ever since he came into the club he has worked extremely hard and you can see that he is desperate to open his goal scoring account for Blues.

Clayton Donaldson has made that striking position his own since he arrived almost two years ago so it has been hard for Vaughan to get a start.

But, when he does get the minutes on the pitch, everything that falls to him seems to end up where he doesn’t want it to.

It isn’t for a want of trying but maybe he is trying too hard and perhaps overthinking when he gets into those goalscoring positions.

When he blazed that penalty high over the bar and into the upper tier of the Tilton against Bournemouth, you could see the frustration in his face.

On Saturday, he saw an effort rebound back off the inside of the post and also had one cleared off the line. It seems that these slight margins are eluding Vaughan of a first Blues goal.

He even got in the way of Stephen Gleeson`s strike that seemed to be nestling right into the top left corner.

Vaughan now has to go through the whole summer with the thought of not scoring for Blues yet in the back of his mind and I am sure that he can’t wait for the new season to start already.

The positive thing is that he is getting the chances. If he continues to get into the right positions, then the goal will come for him.
