With the season now over for Birmingham City, I thought it would be a good idea to have a look at the squads of the team who have exited the Sky Bet Championship this season to see if there are any players who could improve our squad.

In the first of a three part series, I am going to look at bottom side Bolton Wanderers. I have highlighted three players who I think could improve the Blues squad and why they might be of interest to Gary Rowett and his backroom staff.

1. ZACH CLOUGH.

There were rumours going round in January that Blues had agreed a fee for Bolton’s top goal scorer but nothing actually came from it in the end but I wouldn’t be surprised to see a move happen in the summer transfer window.

The 21-year-old forward has been one the only shining lights in the Totters horrible season which has seen them drop down into the third tier of English football and I think he is the sort of player who Rowett could mould into a fine young footballer.

Although he has only played 29 games this season, the academy player has shown that he is capable of coping at this level and I think he had a better quality of player around him then he would really start to improve.

With seven goals to his name in all competition, Clough would be one of my top targets this season and I think if Blues go in with the right bid then we might be able to prize him away from Bolton.

2. MARK DAVIES.

The former Wolves trainee has been a regular in the Wanderers side this season and it is a surprise to see him still with the club after there was interest in him during the January transfer window.

It was reported that Sheffield Wednesday were interested in him and with good reason as well because I think he is a fantastic player at championship level.

Granted, he may not have had the best season with him failing to score in 39 games, but he is still a battling midfielder that can pick a pass and I think once again under the right management, he could become a top player.

3. ROB HOLDING.

The 20-year-old defender has been tipped for big things by many pundits and papers this season and it looks like he will be one of the first to leave when the window opens in July and he is right to leave.

Still in his developmental stages, Holding has played 30 times this season for the Trotters and I think Blues would be getting a really talented player if they could bring him in and I don’t think he would be that much either.

Although there has been talk of him going to Arsenal, I personally can’t see that happening and with Rowett admitting that he likes to think of the future, I think Holding would be a good partner for Emmanuel Mbende in the under 21s side.

Blues fans, what do you think of the three players that have been highlighted? Would you be interested in any of them? Let us know in the comment section down below!
