Birmingham City and Burnley played out an entertaining game in the lunch time kick off earlier today.

The hosts enjoyed the majority of the possession throughout the game but it was Gary Rowett’s men who struck first through Arsenal loanee Jon Toral.

Goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak smashed the ball up to Clayton Donaldson who nodded it down for Toral to fire into the bottom right corner with the first time half volley on his left foot.

Just before half time Blues could have been 2-0 when David Cotterill found a pocket of space in between the Clarets defence and midfield. He turned and curled a delightful effort towards Tom Heaton’s goal, only to be denied by the post.

Heading into the second half, Blues were then pegged back early on when Cotterill gave away a cheap free kick on the left hand side.

The resulting dead ball was then whipped into the box and summer signing Jelle Vossen flicked the ball on at the near post and Michael Keane stole away from his marker at the back post and powered his header into and empty net.

Just after the hour mark Blues were back in front thanks to some fantastic work from Toral and Clayton Donaldson.

Toral burst forward and played a through ball to Donaldson who seemed to get tripped in the box and the referee awarded a penalty.

Paul Caddis stepped up and smashed the ball past Heaton in the Burnley net to restore the Blues lead.

With less than ten minutes to go, Burnley once again levelled the scores through a Matt Taylor free kick.

The second half substitute stepped up to take his second free kick in as many minutes. His thunderbolt crashed in off the underside of the bar and the spoils were shared.
