Blues Fans Need Reality Check Pt2

In answer to st3v3’s Blues Fans Need A Reality Check Pt1 Blackeye joined in the argument below:

I’ve no confidence in the squad we now have to gain us promotion, not least without some grit and determination brought into the mix. If we had less flairy or should that be fairy players last term we’d have survived by the skin of our teeth. We had no bottle, battle; we lacked the do or die attitude that had carried us up and kept us up. The Championship will be a much harder battle than the Prem and if our players couldn’t motivate themselves or find it within themselves to fight in a league where it’s less physical we are truly shafted now.

I don’t think it’s beyond us to bounce back and I do think if Bruce shows willingness to get rid of players who earn high and perform low, then the board will reinvest that money and back him again in order to get the missing pieces back in place that will give us a spine.

I take what you are saying about Bruce being backed but it also possibly being the best time to say thanks and bye – but Bruce’s most questionable signings came once we were up. He brought players in who are well known for not being prepared to fight and battle. Yes they are skilful, talented and on their day can change and win games but they came in at a time our battlers moved on (hate to say it but Savage) and others went down with long term injuries. All managers cock up, but Bruce has shown he can compete in the transfer market to improve the club when it comes to fighting – a mixture of bad signings, and injuries meant his flair element looked like headless chickens for most of the season. And I don’t think all of that can be blamed on Bruce.

I do however wholeheartedly agree that the likes of O’Neill and Curbs being available makes it very tempting to look towards a new manager, with new ideas and the normal new manager syndrome that normally kick-starts players back into form.

I just think it’s very unlikely we can at the moment attract a better man than Bruce, but it’s completely up to him to restore fan faith, response the faith of the board in him by losing those he probably likes but haven’t performed and won’t perform and by taking next season as a chance to put it right and make the decisions needed to get us back up.

If injuries hadn’t been so bad and big name players had remembered what they were paid for we’d still be up there. That’s what I keep seeing and can’t get past.

I could of course just be kidding myself though, why can’t we clone the likes of Frainy who lived and breathed this club!
