Birmingham Target Is Sold For £3m Less Than Expected To Championship Rival

|

It was a deal that was never likely to happen following the club’s issues with Financial Fair Play, but we were reportedly looking at Martyn Waghorn earlier this summer.

Middlesbrough and Sheffield United were also keen on the 28-year-old but the Ipswich striker has finally left Portman Road and joined Derby County.

The irony is that the fee, according to Sky Sports is believed to be £5m; the amount we reportedly offered Bournemouth for Lewis Grabban back in early July. Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder had previously said the Tractor Boys wanted “£8m to £10m” for the forward.

Although there would have been no guarantees that he’d have picked us ahead of the Rams, it’s still frustrating to see that due to restrictions placed on us by the EFL, we were unable even to make a bid for former Rangers man.

Website TWTD reported last month that, in addition to Derby, there was genuine interest from us in Waghorn. Our pursuit proved to be shortlived though. Hopefully, Omar Bogle can prove to be an excellent loan addition for the team.
