The club are “set to sign” Lee Camp from Cardiff City, according to the Birmingham Mail.

The Northern Ireland international would certainly not be my first choice to provide competition for Connal Trueman but there are a limited number of options available to Garry Monk in terms of free agents and loan signings.

When we polled fans about the club’sĀ interest in the 33-year-old, the majority were opposed to the move going ahead:

Personally, I’m hoping that Camp is just a bench-warmer if he comes in. He conceded 22 goals in just 12 games for Sunderland whilst on loan at the Black Cats last season. He hasn’t been a regular first-team player since the first half the 2016/17 season when he was playing for Rotherham.

After Trueman’s decent competitive debut against Norwich City, I’m sure most fans are hoping that Monk sticks by the 22-year-old if there is no way back for either David Stockdale or Tomasz Kuszczak. Neither player looks likely to leave permanently before tomorrow’s deadline, although a loan departure before the end of the month cannot be ruled out.

  • I don’t wont camp at birmingham city. Stockdale is Much better, by a mile. Put Stockdale back in goal monk. He’s a good goalkeeper he just needs time. And better fitness training.

  • Well every GK That has been at Sunderland as conceded lots of goals I put that down to the Sunderland defence. He would not have been my choice. We should just keep kusack. IMO.

    • It’s true that all Sunderland keepers conceded lots of goals (even Jordan Pickford) but this guy is hopeless …. been watching football for 40 years and he’s in the top 5 of worst keepers I’ve ever seen. Gonna get some money on BCFC for relegation if this clown is between the sticks for you’s this season. haha

  • Its all part of the FFP fiasco. He’s what we can afford. Apart from last season against Sunderland he’s always done well against us. Because of FFP we cannot hope to improve any position in our team because whoever we sign must be paid less than the player who is replaced. If Monk can improve the position of this Club then he will be regarded as a great manager. We as fans need to forget anything past the next game.
We are mid table and play the league leaders on Saturday. We will have 18 players in the squad who will be giving all they can.

  • Something rotten has happened behind the scenes for Stockdale and Kuszczak to be frozen out. I hear Grounds refused to play at the end of the season after being dropped following a poor performance. It’s farcical that we are signing players to replace positions we don’t need replacing. We have a cash crisis and are signing players worse than the ones getting paid big money to sit on their arse doing nothing.
