Birmingham Draw Bristol Rovers

Birmingham City, 2011 winners of the competition, will travel away to Bristol Rovers in their bid to go as far as they can in the cup that brought them a piece of recent history just four years ago.

Bristol Rovers compete in the fourth tier of English football. At the Memorial Stadium, under manager Darrel Clarke. They endured a penalty shoot-out in order to win promotion back to League Two this past season. It was the first time they’d been relegated from the FL in 94 years.

Clarke took charge of Rovers last season when they were already looking doomed, having now steered them back on path he will be eager to make his mark in the FL this time around.

The Capital One Cup is a chance for the larger teams to play an altered team. Quite often it is the first budding experience that a young professional gets in the first team. As first team expenditure is often reserved for the FA Cup.

This season Birmingham will have a streamlined squad in order to include the youngsters in the set-up. So when Birmingham line up against Bristol Rovers (date to be confirmed) we could be seeing the likes of Charlee Adams, Koby Arthur and Reece Brown.

I always really enjoy the cup competitions, something a bit different with the chance of taking a huge step forward with just one fortunate and hard-fought win. Whilst these stages are a while away there is still plenty of excitement in playing teams below ourselves in the league tables.

As soon as the games are selected for TV and we know the dates we will publish all you need to know about when and where this game will be happening. This information is due to be confirmed by June 23.
