Birmingham City will now have to negotiate a fee for Christian Ribeiro if he is to leave Exeter City before the upcoming season.

The Welsh international defender has opted to commit himself to League Two for one more year with his current side. Birmingham had been linked with the player as his contract was coming to an end.

Perhaps the player is showing a good level of loyalty to the club that enabled him to perform so well last season. It is possible that Birmingham have not made contact and so he has chosen not to wait and sign a new deal with his club.

Birmingham have been quiet on the transfers front, understandably. The club are having to compete tooth and nail for players and other clubs can more often than not pay the players more money to go elsewhere. So this may be leading us to stories that are a little wide of the mark.

What we do know is that Rowett is active, even whilst he is on his family holidays he is working each morning and each evening to get players into the club. Whether we are getting reliable stories or not, the club is no doubt seeking out players.

It is well worth noting that Rowett told a local media outlet just some weeks ago that a lot of the players that had been linked with the club were not actually a target.

Christian Ribeiro, 25 and born in Wales has had spells with Bristol City, Colchester, Carlisle and Scunthorpe before joining Exeter just last summer. Having been crowned their player of the season, the club was desperate to hold onto him.
