Birmingham City have confirmed via their official website that attacking midfielder Andy Shinnie has signed a contract extension which will keep him at the club until the summer of 2018.

The news of the deal comes just a day after it was announced that first choice left back Jonathan Grounds signed on for another two years.

Shinnie is now the fifth player to commit his future to the club following on from Demarai Gray, Clayton Donaldson, Paul Caddis and Jonathan Grounds.

Following the news that Blues would not be re-signing former loanee Diego Fabbrini, the news that Shinnie has signed a new deal will come with some relief to both fans and management.

With another busy championship season ahead, Shinnie looks as though he is set to play a vital part in Gary Rowett’s squad. No doubt, one of the factors in Shinnie signing a new contract would have been first team football.

Blues fans, what do you make of this great news? Are you happy that players are continuing to sign extensions for the club? Who would you like to sign an extension next? Let us know in the comment section down below!
